In this agreement “we” or “us” or “our” refers to makeup artists and hairstylists working freelance under the branding of Barnet & Boatrace and “you” refers to the client. “Wedding date” shall also refer to the date of your “event” or “special occasion”.
TRIAL & CONSULTATION PREP A consultation and trial is advised to be carried out at least 3 months before the date of your wedding. This is so you can be confident that the products used suit your skin type, last the duration and so that you feel comfortable with us and trust that you wont look like something dragged out of the 80’s (unless that’s the look you’re going for of course then who are we to judge!) However, we do find that most brides prefer to go for a classic, timeless look that wont look dated in photographs in years to come.
At your trial (or a few days before your wedding if you’ve chosen not to have a trial) please have images ready of makeup & hair styles that inspire you (Pinterest is a great place to gather some ideas) together with any photos you have of your bridal and bridesmaids outfits as well as any jewellery and accessories. This will help us to envisage the overall look for the day so that we can do our best to make your dreams become a reality. It’s a good idea to bring with you your current foundation and any other ‘must have’ beauty products so that we can assess what sort of makeup you’re used to wearing (if any) and how heavy you like your coverage. Please also bring with you your veil or any other hair accessories.
If you decide not to have a trial run and are not happy with the outcome of your hair and/or makeup on the day
Makeup always looks its best and lasts longest on a freshly cleansed and toned boatrace. For optimum results we recommend you use a gentle exfoliator at least 12- 48 hours before your trial and again before your big day. For your barnet, we’d recommend you wash it the night or day before. Please ensure you thoroughly rinse out the conditioner to avoid the end result being a greasy mess which is hard for even our most talented hairdressers to style!
ALLERGIES A combination of premium makeup brands will be used in a strict hygienic manner, however, unfortunately we cannot guarantee against any adverse skin reactions and cannot take responsibility in the event of an allergic reaction. If you have any known skin allergies please advise us ASAP or if you would prefer us to use your own products, that’s no problem at all. We can also look into adjusting our quote (in your favour) to take this into account if the majority of your own products are used.
TRIAL FEES Our usual fee for a trial is £50 - £60 per service so that’s £100 - £120 for both your barnet and boatrace. If we are not carrying out the trial from our home and are travelling to you we may need to add on a small supplement of 45p - 50p per mile to cover our time and fuel if you are outside of the Bournemouth/Poole area. We will advise you of any additional travelling costs at the time of booking your trial where this is applicable. Trials must be paid for in cash to the makeup artist and stylist direct at the time of the trial.
The trial & consultation normally takes 90 minutes for both hair and makeup and our aim is for you to go away feeling fabulous and confident that you have made the right decision booking us to take care of your hair and beauty needs on your big day. In the rare event that you’re not entirely happy, please get in touch. Client satisfaction is key.
DEPOSITS To hold your wedding date a non refundable £50 (per service) deposit is required. ie £50 for hair and £50 for makeup. Following a successful trial 50% of the total balance will become due. Please make your payment within 14 days of your trial via bank transfer. We will provide you with an invoice. To hold your prom or special occasion date a 50% deposit is required.
PAYMENTS One of the last things you want to be doing is handling bundles of cash on your big day so to help the morning run as stress free as possible we request the final balance to be paid via bank transfer no later than 14 days before your wedding day or event.
PHOTOGRAPHY At the end of your trial we will take photos of your hair and makeup so that we can refer to these images on your wedding day to recreate the look. From time to time we like to post images on both our website as well as our social media pages and other websites which we advertise on to help promote our work. If you haven’t already liked us, please feel free to do so and a positive review on either our Facebook page or on Google is always gratefully received too!
We assure you that we will not post any images of you or your wedding party before or on the day of your event that reveal your identity or face so not to ruin the surprise for any of your guests that may already be following us on our social media pages. We’d also love to share some of your professional images from your photographer after the event too so please let us know in writing if you do not agree to this otherwise acceptance of these conditions will indicate your agreement.
CHANGES TO YOUR BOOKING Please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to make any changes to your booking as we may need to rope in some extra hands from a second makeup artist or hair stylist if you are adding on more guests. We will advise you in writing of the additional costs. If any last minute clients are added on the day of your wedding they must be paid for in cash at the time. Should you wish to reduce the number of clients to your booking we reserve the right to charge the full amount quoted at the time of the original booking as all of our quotes are bespoke and based on not only the time, the location and time of year it can also be dependant on the number of clients booked in.
TRAVEL FEES The first 10 miles from the makeup artist and/or hair stylists home to the Bridal preparation venue is included in all quotes for free. Due to the increase in fuel prices an additional 45p per mile will be added to your quote for each makeup artist and/or hair stylist outside of the 10 mile radius. If your Bridal preparation venue changes from your original booking your quote will also be adjusted to account for this.
POSTPONEMENTS AND CANCELLATIONS (INCLUDING COVID-19) Should you need to cancel or rearrange your trial (and any accompanying bridesmaids/mums) with less than 24 hours notice 50% of the trial fee will still be payable. It is at our discretion if this is to be reduced or waivered. In the event that you wish to postpone your wedding for any reason we will be happy to honour the original quote as long as the rescheduled wedding takes place within 12 months of the original wedding date. The deposit will also be transferred to the new wedding date. If it falls outside of the 12 months we will provide you with a new quote and will require a further deposit to be paid.
If you wish to cancel your wedding completely the deposit paid can be transferred towards a hair and makeup session worth £100 and must be carried out within 6 months of the original date of the wedding or event. Ie original wedding date 31st July 2022, makeup and hair session to be redeemed by 31st January 2023.

Within 30 daysor less of the proposed wedding date :100% of the balance quoted will still be payable. In the exceptional circumstance that the cancellation is made by us (please be assured this has never happened before) and we cannot find an alternative makeup artist and/or hair stylist of the same professional standard to step in, a full refund of the deposit and any balance already paid will be returned to you as promptly as possible. No additional compensation will be offered. It is strongly advised that you take out your own Wedding & Event insurance policy.
